Michigan Football: Wolverine Schedule Notes — UNLV News Tidbits

The Michigan Wolverines football program recently announced non-conference match-ups against Utah, Oregon State, UNLV, and Colorado for 2015 and 2016.

Today we will discuss news tidbits regarding the UNLV game and take the pulse of the Las Vegas media and how UNLV feels about the upcoming game.

• UNLV football will visit Ann Arbor on Saturday, September 26, 2015.

According to Taylor Bern of the Las Vegas Sun, this game will be the second time since 2004 that the UNLV Rebels have visited the Eastern Time Zone to play a football game. UNLV had previously played at West Virginia in 2010.

Michigan will make a payout of $1 million guaranteed money for UNLV to come to the Big House in 2015.

• The Wolverines have recently played the San Diego State Aztecs in 2011, who come from the Mountain West Conference, the same conference as UNLV, and Michigan will play Air Force this upcoming season on September 8, a team that is also from the Mountain West Conference.

• Michigan head coach Brady Hoke was previously the former head coach of the Aztecs and has experience coaching against Mountain West schools, which will be a plus for Michigan—assuming Hoke is still in command of the Wolverines at that time.

• UNLV’s most recent meeting against a Big 10 team was against Wisconsin in a 51-17 loss last season.

According to Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Journal, “UNLV coach Bobby Hauck has been trying to ease the schedules, but the big payday would help an athletic department that could use the financial boost.” UNLV understands this is a body-bag game for the Wolverines, but could not resist the pay day.

• This is not a home-and-home series and Michigan will not play against the Rebels in Las Vegas anytime in the near future.

• This matchup could prove to help bolster Michigan’s schedule as it will need to impress a future playoff committee and make a statement for a playoff spot in 2015, the second year the FBS will have a playoff.
